Margaret de Stockton

Recumbent lady

Freestone

c.1470

Margaret's head, her hair just visible below a wimple with a goffered frill, indicating her married state, rests on a cushion supported by two, now headless, angels. She is depicted wearing a high-waisted dress with decorative buttons and ample folds with flowing outer sleeves over inner tighter fitting ones, and a mantle draped from the shoulders. The remains of a dog lie at her feet.

A point of interest is the interesting lion's head, which is carved on the west side of the slab.
