Lord Haddon is depicted in a shroud reclining on an altar tomb. He was the elder brother of the 9th Duke and died of tuberculosis in 1894 at the age of nine.

The sculpture was created by his mother, Violet, 8th Duchess of Rutland, who locked herself away for a year.

The monument at Belvoir Castle is a metal cast. The original is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. A second cast is at Haddon Hall, Derbyshire.

In shields on the west end is the bust of John Henry Montagu Manners; while on the south side, also in shields, are the busts of (from left to right) Lady Victoria Marianne H Manners; Lady Diana Olivia Winifred Maud Manners and Lady Violet Catherine Manners.
