Recumbent priest

Alabaster

14th century

Set in the chancel north wall, under an ogee gable with fleurons up the jambs, this very badly worn clerical effigy is represented in a chasuble with his hands, now missing, in prayer. The head rests on a cushion that was originally supported by two angels. Resting on what may have been a pre-Reformation altar stone, there is neither inscription nor arms.
