The pedestal of this white marble bust bears the inscription: Philip Sherard Earl of Harborough buried at Whissendine Aug the 30th 1750 aged 70. Philip Sherard became MP for Rutland in 1708, succeeding to the title of Earl of Harborough in 1732. He married Anne Pedley by whom he had six sons and eight daughters.
