![]() Still retaining much of the original paint, the figures are bordered by two Corinthian pilasters of black marble. ![]() The couple are depicted with their hands in prayer kneeling before a double prie dieu. Behind them are their six sons (two in swaddling clothes) and six daughters (one in swaddling clothes). ![]() Above the creation are the Nicolls arms (Sable, three pheons argent, a bend sable). ![]() Beneath the monument is a bas relief lion's head. Although the inscription is no longer discernible John Nichols recorded the last three words as Mortales Partes Deposuit. Born in 1559 Nicolls, one of the judges of the Common Pleas, served as Recorder for the Borough of Leicester in 1607 and was Lord of the Manor of Kibworth Beauchamp.
